Blessed is the Season

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, filled with joy, laughter, smiles, and the exchange of appreciate towards one another, because after all, the best gift you could possibly be given, is family. It's this time of the year that we are reminded that we are not alone, in fact, we have the best support and everything we need right at home, in our hearts, and in the hearts of those who we hold dear to us.

J.J. and my mom at church.

Christmas at my house is very traditional.  We prefer to do a dinner party for the family on Christmas Eve, go to church, and come home for some more food and celebrations together, exchanging stories by the dinner table and giving a toast as we soak up on some sparkling grape juice. Christmas day is then saved for opening presents first thing in the morning, and continuing creating our memories at the dinner table.

J.J. decided to sneak some cookies while waiting for dinner...

We must have been very good this year...
Santa spoiled us!

For such an important time of the year, Jerrid and I wanted to split our Christmas day between both of our families, or at least that is what we had planned. Due to a huge snow storm in the Northeast of the US, many flights, including ours, were cancelled.  We ended up flying out the next day and got to see snow again for the first time in years...and the first time ever for baby J.J.!

After an amazing Christmas with my family, we jet-setted to Ohio the next day. Ohio was wonderful. Covered in a layer of beautiful white snow, so perfectly placed on top of whatever lies below.

J.J.'s first time in the snow!

It's been years since I've seen snow! I've missed it, but the 3 days we spent in it is enough to last me a while.  It's beautiful, but the cold weather and I do not mix well.

I slipped off my bubble coat to take a few photos in my new Old Navy waist tie cardigan, hence the reason there are only 2 photos...it was COLD!

For my makeup, I went for a simple look using my Urban Decay NAKED palette, which is so convenient to travel with.  I just slip it into my purse and I have a whole trips worth of looks all bundled up into one on-the-go palette.  I used "Smog" on the entire eyelid, highlighted with "Sin", lined with Zero, applied some mascara and was basically on my way.

The trip was plenty of fun, and it was so good to spend time with both extensions of our families for Christmas.  It truly was a blessed season!

Now that we're back home, we're brushing up our skills on the present I got for Jerrid!
We're officially obsessed with the Wii.

Wishing everyone continued happiness for the holiday season!

Merry Christmas!

Wishing all of my wonderful readers a merry Christmas filled with love, laughter, and holiday cheer! Many blessings to you all on this sacred and special day.

I hope you all get to be with the ones you love! It's not the presents around the tree, but the people who surround the tree with you that matter the most!  Since Jerrid's family is so far away from us, all the way in Ohio, we've decided to split our Christmas day between both of our families.  During the day we will be in Florida with mine, and by the evening we will be on a flight to Ohio to celebrate the second half of the day with Jerrid's family, which is when they usually gather to celebrate!

Many well wishes from my family to yours!

Merry Christmas!

With much love,
Jerrid, J.J., and Katrina

Lunar Eclipse 2010

North America was fortunate enough to witness the celestial dance between the Earth, and the sun to conspire a lunar eclipse during the wee early hours of the winter solstice.  During a lunar eclipse, the moon is left within the darkness of the shadow cast upon it by the Earth, as the moon passes by. Some indirect light makes its way around the edges of our planet and leaves the moon with a ghostly amber haze.

I documented some phases of the eclipse.

These photos were taken between 2:00 AM and 3:15 AM.

It's fascinating!

The moon is placed perfectly high up n the sky since it is on the night of the winter solstice, and so, if you miss it tonight, you just have to wait until the next time a lunar eclipse coincides with the solstice...in the year 2090.

According to NASA, there will be 2 lunar eclipses in 2011 - in June and December.   North America will not be able to witness the June eclipse, and will only be able to take part in the December phenomenon.

Happy Eclipsin'!

2 dolla...holla!

I woke up this morning with the anticipation to log into Hautelook.com and join in on the Urban Decay $2 sale...not knowing what exactly would be on sale, but being sure that each and every item would be $2, brushes included.  When 11am finally rolled around (Eastern time), and the sale went up, I have to say that it wasn't as miraculous as I had expected, but for $2 a pop, I still chucked items into my shopping cart without even thinking about it. I bought all of the pigments that were available (with the exception of "Smog" and "Baked", since I have those colors in my NAKED palette) both matte eyeshadows, all 4 of the smudge liners, and a big fatty mascara in "Flipside", all of which cost me around $45 bucks total, shipping included.  Pretty good deal in my opinion.

Here is a detailed list of the items I got from the sale:

Smoke Out Pencil - Purple Haze
Smoke Out Pencil - Maui Wowie
Smoke Out Pencil - Mary Jane
Smoke Out Pencil - Green Goddess
Matte Eyeshadow - Chronic
Matte Eyeshadow - Narcotic
Loose Pigment - Yeyo
Loose Pigment - Shattered
Loose Pigment - Shag
Loose Pigment - X
Loose Pigment - Rockstar
Loose Pigment - Protest
Loose Pigment - Gunmetal
Loose Pigment - Graffiti
Loose Pigment - Goddess
Loose Pigment - Asphyxia
Big Fatty Colored Mascara - Flipside
Big Fatty Colored Mascara - Black Cherry

Did you get a chance to head over and check out the sale at Hautelook?

What did you get?

With the adrenaline still flowing, I also picked up the NY palette off of Urban Decay's website, so you can look out for plenty of updates using my new goodies when they do finally get to me in the mail. I can't wait!

*  *  *  *  *

This past week has been hectic. Sorry for the lack of quality in my blog posts.  Christmas is always a big deal in my family, so shopping for everyone has become a top priority.  I'm not 100% satisfied with all of my gifts, so I still have a bit more shopping to do.  I know the season isn't about the presents, but about all of the love that we show to one another, but I have worked hard this year, and just for this moment. I want to be able to spoil my loved ones with exactly what they wanted...even if they didn't know they wanted it! Does that ever happen to you? You get something, and you realize that thing is exactly what you want, but you didn't even know you wanted it? Thats my goal this Christmas.

The kids in the family were the easy part...they write letters to send off to Santa which they think get dropped into the mail box, but are actually swiped into my jacket and opened later for my eyes to skim from top to bottom.  I'm so convincing with the "fake mail drop". I even do the double check to show that they all went down!

*  *  *  *  *

Since getting most of the Christmas shopping done, I have finally found some time to mellow out and have some fun in my makeup stash.  I tried out my Nicki Minaj Pink Friday MAC lippie, and realize that it will probably be another addition to the dust collector stash. Its fun and all, but just too bright for me to ever wear out in public.  Lipgloss can only do so much to dilute this bright pink. It looks radioactive on me!

Wearing MAC "Pink Friday" lipstick

Since I had errands to run, I couldn't wear Pink Friday out. I wiped my lips down, and glossed up using Napoleon Perdis lipgloss in French Pink, a baby pink with nude undertones.

On my eyes, I brought back an oldie but a goodie.  I have had this Lorac "Metallic Pearl" Glam rocks pigment on my blog sale for a long time, but every time I would get an offer for it, I would refuse to sell it knowing that I may just regret getting rid of it.  I applied the Loran pigment all over my eyelid and blended out the outer V using Urban Decay eyeshadow in "Smog" from my NAKED palette.

What I used:

Face:
L'Oreal Studio Secrets Facial Primer
CoverGirl Mousse FOundation - Classic Tan

Cheeks:
Mark - After Glo and Sun Glo blushes mixed.

Eyes:
Loral Glam Rocks - Metallic Pearl
Urban Decay eyeshadow - Smog for outer V

Lips:
Napoleon Perdis lipgloss - French Pink

Swatch: MAC - Pink 4 Friday Lipstick

Nicki Minaj has made her name in the game and recently collaborated with MAC on a special edition lipstick to give her fans a taste of her signature pink pout, to celebrate the release of her debut album. The lipstick was sold online exclusively at www.maccosmetics.com for four Fridays following the album release date. November 26th was the first day the MAC Pink 4 Friday lippies went up for grabs.

The vibrant pink lipstick would become available online at midnight on each of those four Fridays. Buyers would cause a major lag on the MAC website to a point of complete browser crashes and even removal from checkout carts after claiming one for yourself. Within 25-40 minutes after midnight, they would usually be sold out, and potential buyers would be left with a message asking them to leave their e-mail addresses in order to be sent a reminder as soon as the following Pink Friday sale day comes rolling around.

Today, December 17th, was the last day to secure a Pink 4 Friday lipstick of your own.

The lipstick is a bright bubble gum pink with a satin finish.  The texture is creamy and the color payoff is great.  It's one of those colors that would look different on various skin tones.  It's similar to other pinks that MAC has available, but in it's own right, has its differences.  Pink 4 Friday is much more wearable than Saint Germain which is a super bright vivid pink, that can hardly be brought down to a wearable shade for many.  Pink 4 Friday seems like a perfect blend of Saint Germain and Pink Nouveau (a darker vivd pink).

Stay Warm

I crossed an item off my wishlist, as I opened the neatly wrapped package from Sedona Lace.  I finally have the 88 Warm Palette in my possession.  This palette is for everyone, and can fit into anyone's taste.   Whether you prefer smokey eyes, neutral eyes, or natural looking peepers, this palette is perfect for any makeup enthusiast, so of course, I had to have it.

I did a look using the 88 warm palette today.  I put a quick look together using 3 shades from the palette. The look is very forgiving, the usual when working with neutrals.  You have plenty of leeway for an accident or mistake, and much room for correction in case you find the need for it. This is the main reason why I stick to neutrals most of the time, they are the simplest colors to deal with, and you can put together a smokey eye in minutes.

What I used:

Face:
Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream
Mark Tinted Moisturizer

Cheeks:
Nothing

Eyes:
Sedona Lace 88 Warm Palette
           - K8 and J8 mixed along outer V and in crease
           - D6 as highlight and along brow bone
NARS eyeliner in Onyx smudged with eyeliner brush.
YSL Faux Cils mascara in black.

Lips:
MAC Lipstick - Utter Pervette
MAC Lipglass - Florabundance

'Tantra'lized - Vaughn Anthony

Friday night, Jerrid and I were invited to a private affair at Tantra lounge in Miami Beach to watch John Legend's little brother and up and coming signed artist, Vaughn Anthony perform.  John and Vaughn are both from Jerrid's hometown of Springfield, a small town in Ohio where everybody knows everybody.

Here's a video to introduce Vaughn and his brothers and gives you a little bit of insight into his passion for music.

As soon as we got to the venue, Jerrid and I asked for a table and had dinner ordered, to pass the time and enjoy some good music with full bellies.

I wore my one shoulder dress from Hot Miami Styles, my SHIH by Stephanie Lin medium liquid metal tote, and used Urban Decay NAKED palette for my makeup. I went for a simple look, and not necessarily by choice...we were in a rush to get ready and get down to the venue before the show.  Another reason as to why I love the NAKED palette is the perfect selection of colors to choose from for a quick and easy look in a matter of minutes.

When Vaughn came out to perform, he looked very casual, but once he opened his mouth, nothing about his voice was casual at all. He hit hard from the very first second.  His voice is contagious and enthralling.  The crowd was wide eyed, and all ears.  Knowing this singer writes his own music, has a serious passion for it that many may lack, and has the hunger to be heard, awakens something inside of you to support this artist to the top, and spread his music to another ear that can appreciate it, just as much as you do.  His upbeat tunes and stories told of love, lost and found, tell a tale a young man who's ready for his own spotlight, aside from the bright light shined upon his Grammy Award winning brother.

After the performance, we joined Vaughn and some other mutual friend's of his and Jerrid's, and walked around on South Beach, talking, and listening to Vaughn's voice as he would randomly break out into song while walking. Ladies...you would melt if you heard!

I could never tag along and miss out on a photo opportunity. While at the Delano hotel, I whipped out my camera and snapped some photos of the boys.

Check out Vaughn Anthony's music on his YouTube page HERE.
Follow his Twitter page - @VaughnAnthony1

I'll leave this post off with some of Vaughn's hit songs and videos from his YouTube page.
Ladies...you can thank me later.

Want > Need

It's the season for caring, sharing, giving, and opening your hearts to others, but deep down inside, most of us women will still find some extra cash to spend on ourselves! With the outburst of seasonal sales, online discount codes and releases of special edition items in the beauty realm...it's hard to keep our wallets closed. Luckily for us makeup fiends, it's not too hard to stay under budget and leave a sale satisfied without overspending.

Here is a list of the things that have been on my wish list...a couple of things that I will be picking up within the next few weeks.

Urban Decay Ammo Palette - $36
(Sold at - Sephora, UrbanDecay.com, ULTA)

This palette is one of Urban Decay's best selling palettes. I don't know why it's taken me so long to decide to get it, I knew I've wanted it since trying a friend of mine's while visiting Jerrid's family in Ohio, during the month of September.

The colors are very practical, and a great value for your buck.  Urban Decay eyeshadows go for around $17 a pop, and this palette features 10 shades at $36, which is a deal!  "Smog", and "Sin" are featured in my new NAKED palette, and those are two colors which I wouldn't mind have doubles of...since there are two of my favorites.  "Mildew", "Oil Slick", "Maui Wowie", and "Chopper" are the four that I drool over in this palette, and having them my stash is a must!

I have really been digging the palette frenzy, since they're so easily stored, take us less space and make packing a lot easier for travel...just pop one palette in your makeup bag and you're good to go for the longevity of your trip.  Urban Decay palettes are relatively small, in comparison to palettes such as the 88 or 120 palettes, so stuffing them in your purse for on the go touch ups is no biggie.

Of course, on the other hand, Urban Decay does have their big mama palettes, such as the new UD NY palette.

Urban Decay NY Palette - $54
(Sold at -Sephora, Urbandecay.com, Macy's, ULTA)

It's another palette I have on my wishlist,  just to make it easier for Jerrid to know what to get me in case I buy one or the other, on my own, before Christmas. *wink*

The UD NY palette features 2 shadows featured in the Ammo palette (Smog & Maui Wowie)  and 1 shadow that is featured in the NAKED palette (Smog).  Other than those shades, it does feature some of UD's popular shadows such as "Midnight Cowboy Rides Again", "Money", and "Uzi" amongst its 16 shadow collabo.

If you're a huge Urban Decay fanatic, this is the palette for you.  Along with it's glorified light up pop up display packaging, it tags along a mini sized primer potion, and 2 liners (Zero & Ransom). I think for $54, this palette is a pretty big bang for your buck.  Palettes and collections such as this make great gifts during the holidays, and usually come with nice value prices.

Looking to spoil yourself with some color liners? Staying on the subject of Urban Decay cosmetics, they recently launched their press releases and a preview sale for their 15th Anniversary jumbo 24/7 liner set, which packs a punch with 15 liners, features some new shades, including "Perversion", which is labeled as the seasons blackest and most matte eyeliner.  I'm crossing my fingers and hoping they make this a permanent shade, but until then I'm saving $92 to be able to grab  myself a set of the 15th Anniversary 24/7 liner set when they are released for sale to the public on Urbandecay.com in January of 2011.  The product will be released for retail in stores only in February.

$92 is quite a lot of money to spend on cosmetics, unless of course it's something you may really find it hard to live without, but in the mean time...or while I think about it...I've been looking into NYX jumbo eye liner pencils, and for such a low price, they are a great buy! Each of the NYX jumbo eyeliner pencils retails for around $3.50 and from looking at swatches online, I may indulge in getting a few.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil - $3.50
(Sold at - CherryCulture.com, NYXcosmetics.com, ULTA)

The color selection is vast, and for the price of one Urban Decay eyeliner (which retails for around $17) you can bring home 4 NYX jumbo pencils. Guilt free shopping, with incredible payoff!  NYX is a wonderful cosmetics line which is looked past for its low prices, but should not be forgotten.  Their low prices have not stopped them from creating quality goods that satisfy even the pickiest of makeup junkies. Looking to save a few bucks this season, but still sport the hottest trends and colors, check out NYX cosmetics!

For the price aware shopper, Sedona Lace cosmetics is another line that pleases the buyer without leaving a hold in your wallet.  The company sells palettes stacked with 15, 28, 42, 88, and even 120 eyeshadows colors for your to choose from! On my wish list, the 88 warm palette, an item that Sedona Lace has had trouble keeping in stock because of the huge demand for it.

Sedona Lace
88 Warm Palette - $19.95
(Sold at - www.sedonalace.com)

The Warm palette is a palette for the neutral lover...such as myself. It's jam packed with perfect colors for everyday wear, colors that nobody can have enough of, and at a price of $19.95, its a steal.  I am addicted to my 88 metals palette, and I can't wait to add this one to my arsenal.

*If you do choose to spoil yourself, or someone you know with Sedona Lace goodies, remember to use my promo code at checkout, which is; KatrinaLomidze, to get $3 off your entire purchase.

So with that said, what is on your beauty wish list?

March for Babies

Every day, thousands of babies are born too soon, too small or too sick.  I want to do something about this, so I am walking in the March for Babies (March for Dimes) and I need all the help that I can get! All babies are perfect, but with a little help, we may ensure that one day, all babies will be born perfectly healthy.

Please support my walk with a charitable donation to the March for Babies or come join and walk with me in the march that is being held on May 14th, 2011 at the Florida Atlantic University campus in Boca Raton Florida.  My goal is to reach $300 for the March of Babies, and hopefully even be able to raise my team goal as time gets closer to the date of the walk.

Your gift will support the March of Dimes research and programs that help moms have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives.  It also helps bring comfort and information to families with a baby in newborn intensive care.

Walking along with me is my gal pal and team Co-captain, Susana Montez; VH1's reality starlet, Heartbreaker, from the hit show, For the Love of Ray J 2.

Come out and join us in helping babies...and helping our future!
I will be posting reminders every once in a while, until the day of the march.

Dear Santa...

There's a reason as to why I have my iPhone photographed with me, and I'll let you guys in on the details soon!

December is here, flooding us with Christmas cheer, and calling to mind all of the gadgets we all want to be under the tree.  There are 19 days left until Christmas and we're all scurrying around trying to find that perfect gift for those who are special in our lives.   The gifts we get are nowhere near as sweet as the gifts we give.

Even as an adult I get excited about this time of the year...all the memories from my childhood come rushing back, and somehow in spirit, I become a child again.  This is going to be JJ's second Christmas, and seeing how excited he gets over it, warms my heart.

What I Used:

Face:
L'Oreal Studio Secrets Primer
Revlon ColorStay liquid foundation - #330 Natural Tan

Cheeks:
MAC Blush - "Bite of an Apple"

Eyes:
Sedona Lace 88 Metals Palette
          C6 Along entire lid
          D5 Along entire lid
          B2  Used as highlight
NARS eyeliner - "Onyx"
Maybelline Lash Stiletto mascara
L'Oreal Lineur Intense
Ardel Lashes - Wispies

Lips:
YSl Lipstick #2
MAC Lipglass - Florabundance

To do this look,  used my Sedona Lace 88 metals palette.  I use this palette often because of how versatile the colors are.  I can easily find a wearable everyday look using colors from the 88 metals palette.  I recently bough the Urban Decay NAKED palette, which is another palette I have a serious addiction to using lately. I'm lucky to have found one.  It would make a nice gift, but with the difficulty in finding one, especially now as we get closer to the holidays, the Sedona Lace 88 metals palette is a great alternative.  The colors may not be perfect dupes for the NAKED palette, but they do just fine.

I made a chart of the 88 metals palette and numbered/lettered the rows, like a chess board.  I will try to use this chart from now on to identify which colors I used, and I will try to do so for the other palettes as well. Just line up the letter to the number.

For the entire eyelid, I used a Sedona Lace color that is a close, and good alternative to  Urban Decay's "Smog" eyeshadow.  I used colors C6, and D5 mixed, on the lid, as well as B2, a light gold, as the lightweight.  I lined my eyes with NARS eyeliner in "Onyx", applied false lashes, and then lined them a liquid liner.  I prefer to use L'Oreal Lineur Intense felt tip liquid liner in black.

Photoed above is the Urban Decay NAKED palette.  For those of you who are familiar with it, know how much of a demand there is for it.  So much so that Urban Decay cannot keep up with it.  Some of the colors are similar to those that can be found in other palettes, and overall, Urban Decay did a great job with the shade selection.  The Sedona Lace 88 metals palette is NOT a dupe for the NAKED palette, but has some colors that are wonderful alternatives or quite similar.

Here is a swatch comparison of "Smog", one of the more dupable colors from the NAKED palette.

"Half Baked" a shade found in the NAKED palette is another color that is similar to some that are found in the 88 metals palette.
