Pregnancy Update

Today I had my weekly check up with the doctor. Since I've been past 36 weeks my doctor started meeting with me every week rather than bi-weekly which is the case in the beginning of your third trimester. I have put on a healthy 20 pounds since my first visit to the doctor and I feel great!

I had an ultrasound today to measure the baby's weight and sizes as well as check up on some dates. My doctor was a little concerned, even though my last ultrasound which was 2 weeks prior, shows that everything was perfectly fine with the baby, he thought it would be good to check up on measurements again since my belly measures very small for how far along I am. He was surprised to see today that my baby is developing rather large for its gestational age and it makes me feel all the better as well.

When I first became pregnant and visited the doctor for the first time, the nurses asked me when the first day of my last period was. To be honest, I had no a clue. I was nervous and could not think straight. Rather than thinking of the first day of my last period, I was thinking of the last day and since I had remembered it to be not too long ago I gave them some kind of ridiculously estimated day that was way off what it really was. They assigned me a due date according to the date of me LMP (Last Menstrual Period) and that was that.

This was not a very good thing to do. When I realized that I was incorrect with the date I had given them, the nurses didn't really take it into consideration. I was literally...weeks and weeks off when I thought about it. I gave them an LMP of Sept. 1st. I know for a fact now that my period was wayyyyy before that. I could not think properly at the time though. I was still in shock that I was actually pregnant!

The previous practice I was with was employed with a very lazy bunch of nurses and doctors. I didn't feel like I was being well taken care of and they seemed to want to charge me for things that I was sure my insurance should cover, such as normal ultrasounds and blood tests.

For them to take no note of my changes in the date really threw my due date off. I recently moved to Naples to be with Jerrid during my pregnancy and while he is in season here with an arena football team. I have a new doctor and I am in love with the facility I get to go to! Its beautiful, clean, and the nurses and staff are incredible. They care so much and it makes me feel so much better to know everything as it happens and in detail. Being pregnant, you want to know everything...I mean EVERYTHING!

My records confuse my doctor and his staff so much because I show up to be so much farther along than what my due date from the previous practice states. My doctor basically has not much of an idea as to how far along I am...as accuratley as he would like. My first ultrasound, which came up to be my 14 week ultrasound...was written down to be an 11 week ultrasound since the office was still going by my LMP. Why it gets confusing is because the farther along you get, the harder it is to tell for sure, and 14 weeks for a first ultrasound without a proper due date is pretty far along.

Basically, I am a ticking bomb with no real date or anything. My doctor said I could be induced early if I choose, but if not he will not wait long after my due date to induce me.

So my bags are packed and we're just waiting for me to pop!

Todays update was:
  • 38 weeks & 4 days according to ultrasound.
  • Today my baby boy weighed in at 7 lbs. 8 oz. and 19 inches long. (According to ultrasound)

  2. Olivia!! Congratulations on your baby girl!! What a blessing! How amazing is it to be a mommy!!! I can't wait to be a mommy! I've been having the jitters, but I really hope those motherly charms will come naturally.

I'm also absolutely terrified about the delivery. I know its scary and painful and the pain and all goes away after you see your little blessing, but I'm just such a paranoid person.

Naomi Grace is a beautiful name!!! We chose to name our boy after his daddy, so Jerrid Jr. :) I can't wait to see him and kiss him and put clothes on him and everything!

  10. what?! i hate it when i hear about faulty medical facilities.

don't worry about the birth. pushing is the EASIEST part. have you taken any lamaze classes? they really helped me control my breathing and pushing. i didn't tear at all and i believe it was because of the classes. good luck to you and hopefully you aren't totally caught off guard when Jerrid Jr. decides he wants to come out and see the world!

  11. I hope your delivery goes as smooth and painless as it possibly can. My mom says I was the easiest to have...we were all supersize babies though. I was 8 and a half lbs, and my brother and sister were just under 10. Congratulations on your little cutie to be :).

  12. You gained a great healthy weight gain in your pregnancy. Most people think if you don't gain over 50 lbs you didn't do something right, WRONG! Actually 20-30 pounds is great. I was lucky enough to do it with 2 pregnancies, but I think us being tall is a good thing as well :o) I wish you a safe delivery and a healthy baby. The pain is nothing compared to the blessing you will have!! Take care and best wishes!!
